¸ñÀû: Pediatric rhinoplasty, particularly in patients without congenital
anomalies, has traditionally raised concerns due to its potential
impact on facial growth. However, psychological distress related to
appearance during adolescence can influence personality development
and social interactions well into adulthood. This study presents our
experience with a preservative surgical technique, emphasizing
perioperative considerations and the potential benefits of pediatric
rhinoplasty. ¹æ¹ý:A retrospective review was conducted on pediatric rhinoplasty cases
performed for aesthetic purposes by a single surgeon at Samsung Changwon
Hospital between June 2022 and October 2024. Patients with definite
congenital anomalies were excluded. Data analyzed included patient
demographics, surgical indications, operative techniques, outcomes, and
perioperative management. °á°ú:A total of eight pediatric patients (mean age: 13–17 years; seven
males) underwent rhinoplasty. Six patients had a history of nasal
trauma. Indications included deviated nose correction (n = 3),
augmentation rhinoplasty (n = 3), and hump nose correction (n = 2).
All procedures were performed via an endonasal approach using
meticulous, cartilage-preserving techniques, with seven patients
undergoing concomitant septoturbinoplasty for nasal obstruction
symptoms. Septal cartilage was used as grafting material in four
cases. All patients reported satisfaction with their surgical
outcomes, and no revisions or complications were observed. Thorough
perioperative evaluation and shared decision-making with both parents
and pediatric patients are crucial for ensuring informed consent and
satisfactory outcomes. °á·Ð:Pediatric rhinoplasty can be a safe and effective intervention for
adolescents with nasal deformities when performed with expertise and a
meticulous, growth-preserving surgical approach. Comprehensive
perioperative assessment and counseling, involving both parents and
adolescent patients, are essential for achieving optimal functional
and psychological outcomes. |
