¸ñÀû: It is well established that Eustachian tube(E-tube) function improves
after tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy. However, there is limited
evidence regarding the effects of powered intracapsular tonsillectomy
and adenoidectomy (PITA) on E-tube function. This study aimed to assess
the changes in middle ear conditions in patients undergoing these
specific surgical procedures. ¹æ¹ý:Seventeen patients were monitored both before and after the surgery. All
patients underwent PITA, and assessments of E-tube function, middle ear
pressure, and tympanometry were conducted both pre-operatively and post-
operatively. °á°ú:There was a significant improvement in middle ear pressure post-surgery,
suggesting a positive impact of the procedures on middle ear aeration
(p=0.021). However, the E-tube function itself did not exhibit
significant changes (p=0.609), indicating that the surgical intervention
may not directly influence E-tube physiology. Tympanometry showed that
seven out of nine patients transitioned from a Type C tympanogram,
indicative of negative middle ear pressure, to a Type A tympanogram,
reflecting normalized middle ear pressure (chi square test p=0.002). °á·Ð:These findings highlight the potential benefits of PITA in improving
middle ear conditions, despite minimal direct changes in E-tube
function. |
