Background:
Low-grade fibromyxoid sarcoma (LGFMS) is a rare and indolent soft tissue sarcoma
representing <5% of soft tissue sarcomas typically found in the deep soft tissues of the
extremities and trunk. We present a case of a 68 year old male with an LGFMS in the larynx. This
case highlights the diagnostic challenges posed by LGFMS in an atypical site and the
importance of considering rare sarcomas in the differential diagnosis of laryngeal masses.
Objective: This paper aims to report a case of a large LGFMS in a 68 year old male wherein
diagnosis and treatment was delayed due to its uncommon location and its deceiving histologic
features.
Study Design: Case Report
Setting: Tertiary Private Hospital
Patient: This is a case of an elderly male with a 3-month history of dysphonia with a transglottic
mass seen upon flexible nasopharyngolaryngoscopy. Because of impending upper airway
obstruction, patient underwent Tracheostomy, Direct Laryngoscopy with Biopsy. Due to its
malignant histologic features, patient underwent Total Laryngectomy with Frozen Section for
margins of resection.
