¸ñÀû: To determine the cut-off points of a mHealth mobile hearing screening
application scores in predicting hearing loss in community setting among
school-age children ¹æ¹ý:This was the phase II of a cross-sectional study involving a
subpopulation of eighty-three school-aged children, enrolled in an
urban government run school, conducted during the ear and hearing care
advocacy activity of the Philippine Academy of Audiology, from January
13, 2024 to May 11, 2024. Eligible students aged 7 to 12 years old were
randomly selected and subjected to hearing tests using the mHealth
mobile hearing screening application, hearWHO, as the index, test
followed by pure tone air conduction audiometry as the reference test.
One hundred sixty-six ear scores from the application for hearing
screening and corresponding pure tone averages were analyzed via
diagnostic accuracy and receiver operating characteristic curve
determination. °á°ú:On the evaluation of 166 ears, the mHealth hearing screening mobile
application, hearWHO, has high sensitivity, and NPV in cut off points at
40, 50 and 70, when used in all grade levels particularly among those in
Grade 5 and 6 levels . In the ROC analysis showed that the <40 cut off
score showed better ability to distinguished those with hearing loss in
this study population with a Youden index of 0.226 compared to other
scores. However, the resulting area under the curve of .566 (95%
Confidence Interval: 0.347 0.741). °á·Ð:The mHealth hearing screening mobile application, hearWHO, can predict
absence of hearing loss with high sensitivity and high negative
predictive values using scores of 50 and 70 as arbitrary cut off
points. However, optimal cut off points remained undetermined in our
study population based on ROC analysis. Hence limitations identified
must be addressed when conducting further studies regarding the
applications cut off points in detecting the condition in this age
group. |
