¸ñÀû: To evaluate the use of Platelet ich plasma in the middle ear surgeries. ¹æ¹ý:A total 100 patients having a large central perforation were included
in the study conducted at civil hospital, Jalalabad west, Punjab, India
.Patients were divided into two groups of 50 each as a study group and
a control group. Both the groups underwent surgery by post aural route
using underlay technique using the dry temporalis fascia by the same
surgeon (Dr Nitin Arora) at the same hospital under local anesthesia.
Inclusion criteria-
All Male Patients with similar social history
Pure Conductive hearing loss
PTA done at same place
Age group between 30 to 45 years with no systemic diseases
No nasal symptoms
All the patients underwent similar preoperative preparations. The
control group (50 patients) underwent surgery without PRP and the
gelfoamed soaked with ciprofloxacin with dexamethasone ear drops was
used as setting material. The study group surgery was added with PRP by
PRP soaked gel foam placed in middle ear, over the graft and in bony
canal along with wetting the temporal fascia by PRP.
°á°ú:Success rate of graft uptake was 92% in control group and 98% in PRP
group at day 21. Success is measured in terms of the healed ear with no
discharge and no residual perforation after suctioning out the gelfoam. °á·Ð:This study confirms the usage of PRP in ear surgery enhances the
success rate in graft uptake. The temporalis fascia is a free graft and
addition of PRP enhances the action of fibroblasts leading to increased
survival of the graft. The expression of growth factors at the site of
the injury by the platelets in the PRP promotes repair and healing.
These external growth factors augments the bodys inbuilt wound healing
process resulting in an accelerated healing at the site of the injury. |
