MANAGEMENT OF PENETRATING CUT WOUND OF THE LARYNX: A CASE REPORT

Background: A Penetrating cut wound to the larynx is a cut wound on the neck caused by sharp object. Laryngeal trauma is rare, occurring in 1 in 5000 to 137,000 emergency department visits. Globally, the incidence accounts for approximately 5 – 10% of all trauma incidents with multiple neck structures involved in 30% patients. Objective: A rare case of a penetrating cut wound to the larynx with a psychiatric history underwent successful surgical reconstruction. Case report: A 34 years old man brought to the emergency room with a cut wound to the neck that penetrate the larynx. Physical examination shows an open cut wound on the neck with flat edges and active bleeding. Management: Reconstruction of the larynx was successful without any complications following two months after reconstruction. Fiberoptic laryngoscope evaluation shows only visible edema in the posterior commissure, arytenoids and left ventricular fold. Conclusion: A case of penetrating laryngeal wound in a patient with psychiatric disorders has been reported. There were no complications following two months after surgery.
