¸ñÀû: The ideal timing of therapeutic neck dissection in relation to transoral
lateral oropharyngectomy has not yet been defined for tonsil cancer.
This study aims to report the outcomes of a single center¡¯s experience
with the two-stage operation in the surgical treatment of tonsil cancer
with cervical lymph node metastasis. ¹æ¹ý:A retrospective analysis was performed of patients undergoing transoral
lateral oropharyngectomy with intent to proceed to neck dissection at
Guro hospital of Korea University from October 2008 to January 2020. The
demographic data, tumor characteristics, surgical records,
complications, adjuvant treatments, disease recurrence, and survival
outcomes were analyzed. °á°ú:7 patients were identified who underwent two-stage operation of
transoral lateral oropharyngectomy and neck dissection. All patients
underwent timely surgical treatments without intraoperative
complications. A single post-operative complication occurred, involving
chyle leakage necessitating repair under general anesthesia. Notably, no
other complications, such as bleeding, airway obstruction, or
pharyngocutaneous fistula, were observed. Throughout the follow-up
period(range 41–107 months), there were no instances of cancer
recurrence or mortality. °á·Ð:The short interval between transoral lateral oropharyngectomy and neck
dissection surgeries did not negatively impact results, with no
instances of cancer recurrence or mortality observed. |
