¸ñÀû: Introducing a novel and innovative approach for managing lesions within the infratemporal
fossa (ITF).
¹æ¹ý:Accessing the infratemporal fossa through surgery presents a complex and challenging task
due to its deep positioning and the presence of crucial neurovascular structures. We have
introduced a new approach involving an endoscope-assisted unicoronal incision, effectively
managing complex lesions within the ITF. This innovative technique has shown success in
treating cases at our centre, including ITF abscesses caused by odontogenic infection,
widespread Klebsiella bacteremia, and an odontogenic keratocystic lesion located in the ITF.
The procedure, conducted under general anaesthesia, involved a unicoronal incision along
the hairline to the preauricular region, providing access to the infratemporal cavity. Utilizing
the Olympus scope system, the temporalis muscle was elevated for visualization, and
endoscopic guidance facilitated the debridement and removal of infratemporal fossa lesions.
This marks the first instance of surgical treatment of infratemporal fossa lesions via this
method and highlights the promising potential of endoscopic-assisted approaches in
managing challenging ITF pathologies. The novel endoscopic-assisted unicoronal incisional
approach is a less invasive and more precise technique for addressing infratemporal fossa
lesions. It provides improved visualization, efficient treatment, cosmetically pleasing scars,
and high patient satisfaction. °á°ú:All three cases were treated successfully with surgical precision using the endoscopic-
assisted approach to the ITF, following previously outlined techniques. The meticulous
procedures were skillfully performed within a span of one hour, culminating in an
aesthetically pleasing scar and yielding notable patient contentment.
°á·Ð:This innovative endoscopic-guided method utilizing a unicoronal incision provides an
effective approach to addressing lesions in the infratemporal fossa. It enhances aesthetic
results, expands the operative area, minimizes risks, and simplifies the evaluation, sampling,
and management of previously challenging ITF lesions.
