¸ñÀû: Benign tumors of the external nose present challenges in balancing
optimal tumor excision with preservation of nasal function and
aesthetics. Understanding the various histologic diagnoses and surgical
strategies is critical for effective management. Our objective was to
delineate histologic diagnoses, surgical strategies and outcomes
associated with benign mass lesions of the external nose. ¹æ¹ý:A single-center retrospective cohort study conducted from November 2006
to March 2023 at Asan Medical Center, Seoul, Korea. A single surgeon
performed the surgeries for complete or partial tumor removal for
cosmetic enhancement. The analysis included 24 patients with benign
tumors of the external nose were analyzed. The pathologic type of the
benign tumors arising from the external nose was identified. Surgical
interventions for tumor excision included complete or partial removal
via open rhinoplasty or direct tumor excision with an incision on the
nasal dorsum or ala, accompanied by partial excision of the overlying
skin. Postoperative outcomes were assessed, focusing on recurrence. °á°ú:The study included24 patients with a mean age of 32.7 ¡¾ 19.2 (range, 3
months-65 years) years at diagnosis. The nasal dorsum was the
predominant site of tumor manifestation (n = 11). Among the 11
histologic tumor types, hemangioma was most common (n = 8). Patients
with hemangiomas were more likely to be female (p = 0.034) and managed
with just an open rhinoplasty approach (p = 0.048). Seventeen patients
(70.8%) were treated with the open rhinoplasty approach. Recurrence was
observed in 4 patients (16.7%) at an average interval of 3.2¡¾ 2.9 years
following surgery. Cosmetic considerations prompted intentional partial
tumor removal in 4 cases. °á·Ð:Benign tumors of the external nose exhibit diverse pathology.
Preservation of nasal aesthetics is crucial, favoring an open
rhinoplasty approach. Partial tumor removal may be considered in
extensive cases with skin involvement. The results of this study
highlight the need for tailored surgical strategies in managing these
rare tumors. |
