¸ñÀû: Central compartment atopic disease (CCAD) is a new type of chronic
rhinosinusitis with nasal polyposis (CRSwNP). It can cause polypoid
changes to the central sinonasal compartment, while the lateral
sinus remains relatively normal. This study aims to compare the
clinical characteristics of CCAD with CRSwNP and chronic
rhinosinusitis without nasal polyposis (CRSsNP). ¹æ¹ý:A retrospective analysis was performed at a tertiary rhinology
center for patients who were treated with bilateral endoscopic
sinus surgery for CRS with or without nasal polyp from January
2022 to December 2023.
Patients were allocated into three groups: CCAD, CRSwNP, and
CRSsNP. The demographic data, presence of allergy or asthma,
serum total immunoglobulin E, and serum eosinophil, JESREC score,
SNOT-22, olfactory function, taster or non-taster status were
compared among the three groups. °á°ú:A total of 270 patients were analyzed, with 56 having CRSsNP, 140 with CRSwNP, and 74 with CCAD. The prevalence of allergy was significantly higher in patients with CCAD (45.9%) and CRSwNP (41.4%) as compared to those with CRSsNP (25%). Asthma prevalence was also higher in CCAD (16.2%) and CRSwNP (14.3%) groups compared to the CRSsNP (3.6%) group. Serum total immunoglobulin E, serum eosinophil, JESREC scores were significantly higher in CCAD group compared to CRSwNP or CRSsNP groups. Patients in the CCAD group showed more olfactory disturbance than other groups. The percentage of non-tasters was much lower in the CCAD group (11.1%) than in others (20%).rs was much lower in the CCAD group (11.1%) than in others (20%)..6%). °á·Ð:CCAD has distinct clinical characteristics compared with CRSwNP
and CRSsNP. It represented a high prevalence of allergy and asthma
and also showed a strong association with the markers of type 2
inflammation and olfactory disturbance. |
