¸ñÀû: Patients who develop BPPV during hospitalization are frequently encountered. We aimed to identify the differences in BPPV that occurred depending on the purpose of hospitalization. ¹æ¹ý:We retrospectively reviewed the patients who developed BPPV and received treatment during hospitalization from January 2020 to June 2023 at two distinct hospitals. Those who were hospitalized due to dizziness, those who complained of dizziness before hospitalization, or those who were unconscious at the time of hospitalization were excluded. They were classified into three groups. Group 1 included the patients who were hospitalized due to trauma; group 2 included the patients who were hospitalized for scheduled surgery; and group 3 included the patients who were hospitalized for medical treatment. The time from admission to symptom onset (groups 1 and 3), the time from surgery to symptom onset (group 2), and the time from symptom onset until referral to the ENT department were compared. Additionally, the characteristics of BPPV and the number of CRTs required to achieve resolution were compared. °á°ú:91 patients were included in the study: 23 in group 1, 25 in group 2, and 43 in group 3. The time from admission/surgery to symptom onset was significantly shorter in group 1 (3.1 days) and group 2 (5.6 days) compared to group 3 (20.0 days). Time from symptom onset to consultation showed the significant shortest time (2.0 days) in group 3 compared to group 1 (4.1 days) and group 2 (4.0 days). There were no differences in location of occurrence, the involved canals, or the types of BPPV between the three groups. The number of CRTs until resolution showed no difference between the groups. °á·Ð:The present study analyzed BPPV that occurred during hospitalization. We confirmed that BPPV can occur in various environments and that there is a difference in the time it takes for BPPV to occur depending on the environment. BPPV can be overlooked in hospitalized patients, but with accurate diagnosis and proper management, it can be easily treated.
