¸ñÀû: To compare between suprameatal approach and posterior tympanotomy approach in cochlear implantation in children. ¹æ¹ý:The study was carried out on all children done cochlear implantation in Zagazig University, starting from October 2010 till April 2014. children with congenital anomalies, post meningitic cases, and children with chronic suppurative otitis media were excluded from the study. The patients were divided into two groups the 1st group of patients was implanted by the suprameatal approach the 2nd group of patients was implanted by the posterior tympanotomy approach °á°ú:There was a significant difference between the 2 groups as regard the total time of surgery in favor of the 1st group. There was no significant difference between the 2 groups as regard the total number of major or minor complications. But the incidence of electrode extrusion was higher in the 1st group while the incidence of facial and chorda tympani nerves injury was higher in the 2nd group. °á·Ð:suprameatal approach may be clearly a good alternative to the posterior tympanotomy approach for cochlear implantation in children in terms of reducing the duration of surgery and reducing the incidence of facial and chorda tympani nerve injury. |
