¸ñÀû: In management of recurrent otitis media with effusion(OME), ventilating tube (VT) insertion is considered as treatment of choice. However, extrusion of VT is one of main adverse effects complicating treatment course. Two most common material, silicone and titanum are wildely used material for VT. In this study, we compared the duration of inserted VT by tube material. ¹æ¹ý:From 2013 to 2015, 48 subjects were reviewed who were diagnosed with bilateral OME who received bilateral VT insertion using silicone or titanium. The duration of VT insertion was defined as the day of insertion to extruded date upon follow-ups. Duration of tube maintainance was compared in two groups (silicon and titanium), and characteristics of effusion. °á°ú:Out of 48 subjects, 23 silicone tubes and 24 titanium tubes were extruded. The average maintaince duration of silicon tube was 10.2 (months), titanium tube as 9.4 (months) and there was no stastically significant difference. Characteristis of middle ear effusion was cateragorized as free, mucoid, serous, glue, and pus. Duration of maintaince was analyzed by effusion types, which showed no difference in duration by effusion types in both silicon and titanium groups. °á·Ð:In this study, the authors found out there are no difference between tube types nor characteristics of effusion. Since the numbers of reviewed subjects are in relatively small and follow-up terms were not long enough to observe the period of tube extrusion, this comes as limitation of our study. Authors recommend duration of VT maintaince between age groups are expected to be significant, therefore suggesting further studies to be proven. |
