¸ñÀû: We analyzed the prevalence and different clinical features of bilateral Menieres disease by comparing with patients of unilateral Menieres disease. ¹æ¹ý:A retrospective chart review and telephone interview was performed. 311 patients who diagnosed with definite Menieres disease at Yonsei Unversity Severance Hospital from 2007 to 2014 were included. We investigated the prevalence of bilateral Menieres disease and time interval from the development of one side to the other side. We also assessed the difference of clinical features, such as the age of disease onset, co-existence of migraine, familial tendency, hearing threshold, vestibular functions, and prognosis after treatment. °á°ú:The prevalence of bilateral Menieres disease among the patients with definite Menieres disease was 5.1% (17/331), which was significantly lower than Caucasian population (20 40%). Also, the time interval from the development of one side and the other side was shorter than that of previously reported data(20 months vs 5-10 years). Also Onset of disease was significantly faster than that of unilateral patients(35.3 years old vs. 48.9 years old, p=0.002). Incidence of delayed hydrops and co-existence of migraine were more common in bilateral Menieres disease patients(25% vs. 5% and 25% vs. 6%, respectively. p = 0.003). However, familial tendency, hearing threshold, vestibular function, and treatment response have no significant difference between bilateral and unilateral disease °á·Ð:Clinical features of bilateral Menieres disease in Korea were different from those reported in the Caucasian population lower prevalence and shorter time interval from the development of one side to the other side. Younger age onset, higher prevalence of delayed hydrops and migraine were characteristics of bilateral Menieres disease in Korea. Careful counseling and follow-up should be necessary in Menieres patients with younger age, with migraine, and with delayed hydrops. |
