¸ñÀû: Several studies have reported the expression of the melanoma-
associated antigen (MAGE) gene in head and neck squamous cell
carcinoma (SCC). In this study, we evaluated the correlations
between MAGE expression in sputum and the clinical features and
oncologic outcomes of SCC of the larynx and hypopharynx. ¹æ¹ý:We performed a retrospective review of 119 patients treated for SCC
of the larynx and hypopharynx and analysis of their induced sputum
by nested reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction to detect
the MAGE A1-6 gene. The associations between MAGE expression and
clinical characteristics were analyzed. °á°ú:Expression of MAGE A1-6 in sputum was identified in 57 of 119 patients (47.9%). Advanced AJCC stage (p=0.006), lymph node metastasis (p=0.038), double primary cancer (p=0.0006), and chemotherapy (p=0.003) were significantly associated with sputum MAGE A1-6 expression in univariate analysis, while sputum MAGE was independently correlated to double primary cancer (p=0.024, OR=4.135). Expression of MAGE A1-6 in sputum was correlated to poor survival outcome. °á·Ð:Expression of MAGE A1-6 in the sputum of patients with SCC of the
larynx and hypopharynx is correlated with advanced cancer stage and
may be considered a poor prognostic factor. |
