¸ñÀû: The JCIH has reported a guideline on newborn hearing screening in 2007. Also, the Korean guideline of newborn hearing screening has been published in 2010. In the NICU of our institute, we have tried to follow these guidelines and kept a trace of the quality and results of newborn hearing screening since 2009. In this study we reviewed the development aspect of the quality of newborn hearing screening in the view point of 2010 Korean guideline. ¹æ¹ý:335 NICU graduate neonates were evaluated from 2009 to 2011. According to the 2010 Korean guideline, the screening rate within 1 mo of corrected age (CA), confirmation rate within 3 months of CA, refer rate, proper intervention and regular follow up (<3 years) were evaluated. °á°ú:The screening rate of these NICU graduates improved from 89.5% (2009) to 96.9%(2010) and 97.3%(2010). The screening rate become acceptable after 2010, considering that the guideline is >95%. The refer rate was 11.7%(2009), 18.3%(2010), and 16.8%(2011). The refer rate seemed acceptable according to the guideline. The confirmation rate also improved from 33.3%(2009) to 54.5%(2010) and 88.9%(2011). The confirmation rate still did not reach the recommended level of >90%. Hearing loss was identified in 4.65%(2009), 5.21%(2010), and 1.81%(2011). All hearing loss patients were managed properly by the otologists. A additional follow up within 3 years was done in 48.5%(2009), 27.3%(2010), and 55.0%(2011). Regular follow up rate was very poor. °á·Ð:Being aware and trying to follow the guideline improved the quality of newborn hearing screening in our NICU. It seems that a coordinator who keeps track of NICU graduates plays the most important role. But regular follow up after confirmation of normal hearing was very difficult and modification of the guideline may be needed.
