National Survey on the Preoperative, Intraoperative and Postoperative Treatment Protocol in Endoscopic Sinus Surgery

¸ñÀû: Endoscopic sinus surgery(ESS) has become the standard treatment modality in chronic rhinosinusitis. However there is no uniform treatment protocol about preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative care. The objective of this study is to identify and report the practice patterns of experts in endoscopic sinus surgery. ¹æ¹ý:8 times of survey were sent to active member of the Korean Rhinologic Society via e-mail between AUG.2013 to SEP.2014. Response to questions regarding detailed practice patterns, such as preoperative evaluation, packing materials, usage of microdebrider, saline irrigation, and method of anesthesia were recorded anonymously. °á°ú:The average reply number in each survey was 41.5, and most responders were surgeons who are working in referral hospital. 46.9% of responders prescribe routine antibiotics just before CT scan, and mean duration of antibiotics treatment was 1.90 weeks. Routine preoperative olfactory test was prescribed in 64.3%, and 82.2% for allergy test. General anesthesia was preferred in 76.8%, and mean hospitalization period was 3.12 days. The mean rotation speed of debrider was 3054 rpm, and 3000rpm was selected in 51.6%. 74.2% of responder operate foot switch by themselves. Absorbable pack was preferred after ESS. °á·Ð:The current study was the first nation-wide survey on practice pattern of endoscopic sinus surgery, and the data can highlights the opinion of expert sinus surgeon.
