¸ñÀû: Encephalocele is a malformation characterized by protrusions of the brain and meninges through openings in the cranial bones. They are managed surgically and approached in various ways mainly on the basis of its location. Basal encephaloceles have been traditionally approached intracranially. The purpose of this case series was to study whether etiology, reconstructive method or age could predict basal encephaloceles outcome, we conducted a retrospective case series. ¹æ¹ý:We report four cases of basal encephaloceles treated by an endoscopic endonasal approach in our institution. Three cases were congenitalwhile one was iatrogenic resulting after previous endoscopic sinus surgery. °á°ú:All cases were managed through an endoscopic endonasal approach. In 3 patients the skull base defect was successfully corrected while in one case there was recurrence. No major complications were encountered. Operative techniques will be highlighted in the presentation. °á·Ð:Although endoscopic endonasal repair of basal encephalocele is associated with technical difficulties, it is a viable and minimally invasive alternative to traditional craniotomy.
